Retrofit in North Oxford

North Oxford’s Victorian villas are some of the hardest houses in Britain to decarbonise — five storeys of solid brick, ornamental facades that rule out external insulation, conservation-area constraints on every visible surface. They are also where we have done some of our finest work.

On St Margaret’s Road, an 1880s semi was insulated from cellar to ridge in breathable wood fibre, lime and calcium silicate, re-glazed with thirty-four handmade timber sashes, certified EPC C — and is now entirely gas-free, running on a heat pump. We have further projects on Woodstock Road and Lonsdale Road: this stock rewards exactly the drawings-first, moisture-safe approach we build around.
